Why Get a Restraining Order?

A restraining order, also called a protective order, is a legal tool designed to help protect individuals from abuse or threats of abuse. Depending on the circumstances, a restraining order may prohibit the alleged abuser from:

  • Contacting the victim through phone calls, emails, text messages, letters, or other forms of communication

  • Entering or waiting outside the victim’s residence, even if it is also the abuser’s home

  • Approaching the victim’s workplace or school

  • Making threats or following the victim during daily activities

While a restraining order cannot guarantee absolute safety, it creates a significant legal barrier against further abuse. Importantly, violating the order can lead to serious legal consequences.

To obtain an initial restraining order, the process generally requires submitting paperwork and attending a court hearing. Our firm guides clients through this process and provides representation every step of the way.

We also represent individuals who have been falsely accused of spousal abuse, child abuse, or abuse of a partner. In such cases, we work to challenge and overturn restraining orders that were improperly or unjustly issued.
